Economic Development
The Economic Development Officer, Jessica Mikolayczyk, is responsible for overseeing the following operations:
- TriTown Theatre
- Gitanmaax Hall
- Ksan Campground
- Smokehouse Project
The following programs are overseen by the Economic Development Department:
- Summer Employment ( Proposal Driven)
- Gitanmaax Trade Show
- Gitxsan Cultural Days
Bylaw Development
At the Gitanmaax Band Council meeting of September 10, 2008, the Economic Development Committee was given direction to start the work on developing bylaws for the following:
- FARMING ACTIVITY BYLAW
- DERELICT CARS BYLAW
At the October 2, 2008 Economic Development Committee meeting a preliminary draft of the two bylaws was presented and worked on. The current copy that is being worked on is in draft form and further work will be completed on the bylaws prior to bringing them to the Gitanmaax Band Council for ratification.
Once the bylaws are approved by Council, they will be presented to the community for input.
Gitanmaax Christmas Dinner & Gift Opening
On October 2, 2008 the Economic Development Committee met with P. Torres to discuss the 2008 Christmas Dinner and Gift Opening. We were advised at the meeting that P. Torres and B. Sampson are responsible for the Christmas Tree Fund as our long-time volunteer K. Mowatt is no longer doing this project due to her securing a full-time job out of town.
The Economic Development Committee and the Christmas Tree Fund are in the process of developing a working relationship so that both can work together in the coordination, planning and raising of funds for this wonderful community event. It is currently scheduled for December 21, 2008 at the Gitanmaax Hall.
