Our Governance

The Gitanmaax Band currently has a total of 2456 registered members with an actual on reserve total of 800 currently living in our community.

The Gitanmaax Band Government structure (Chief and Council) is elected every 2 years. Our Band Council is comprised of a Band Chief and 12 Council Members. The current Chief and Council started their term June 17th, 2022 and will continue to do so until June 2024.

Each Council Member (as elected), is appointed to a specific pillar/portfolio which involves them with each program or service the Gitanmaax Band Administration is responsible for delivering to the community. Currenty, we have the following pillars/portfolios:
