Gitanmaax November Newsletter Highlights: Walking Forward Together
This month, Gitanmaax continues to make strides toward a stronger, safer, and more connected community. Here are the key updates:
1. Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP) Workshops
Join us on November 19 (5–9 PM) and November 20 (12–4 PM) at Gitanmaax Hall for our CCP World Café sessions. These gatherings will shape priorities for the next decade through open conversations and a Dotmocracy voting exercise. Your voice matters—help guide Gitanmaax’s future!
2. Financial and Governance Progress
Gitanmaax has completed its own reconciliations and year-end financial statements for the first time, alongside implementing the Financial Administration Law. These changes strengthen accountability and lay the foundation for long-term stability.
3. Community Safety and Justice Initiatives
The creation of a Justice Coordinator and events like Take Back The Night reflect our commitment to safety and Gitxsan approaches to justice. Partnerships and emergency readiness planning are underway to protect our people and lands.
4. New Grants and Investments
Over $1.8 million in funding has been secured for projects in governance, safety, economic development, food security, youth employment, and cultural spaces. Highlights include theatre renovations, museum expansion, and emergency training programs.
5. Playground Project
Thanks to a one-time grant, a new community playground will be installed in Spring 2026. Community feedback will guide the final design—watch for surveys coming soon!
6. Infrastructure and Environmental Protection
Work continues on the Ksan bank protection project, shared fire services agreements, and transportation safety planning with provincial partners.
